As a baseline for the group of 41 stocks, the low point was
established on the week ending 4/25/97. In another 3 weeks, the 2
year anniversary of that baseline will occur. The following table
looks at the winners and losers at Thursday's close compared to the
baseline.

First of all, the group is only up 7 percent over the nearly 2 year
period compared to a 47 percent gain for the SOX-X. This is due
primarily to the makeup of the group compared to the SOX-X. The
group has many more small cap stocks that have not done well over the
period. The SOX-X is composed of 16 stocks that are all relative
leaders in their respective niche, and are larger cap stocks. This
effect can be seen by noting that 4 of the stocks in the group, AMAT,
NVLS, TER and KLAC are 4 of the 16 stocks in the SOX-X. In the
group their performance has been first, third, fourth and eleventh
respectively.

21 stocks in the group are up in value over the nearly 2 year period,
while 20 are down. 6 of the stocks are down over 50 percent.
