What is really at stake here is whether Europe is willing to permit a leader like Milosevic to maintain a "pariah" status for Serbia while EVERY other nation surrounding his country seeks entry into the European economic community and NATO (with exception of Albania that I'm aware of).

Milosevic has denied his people the avenue of integration into the European economy and turned his country into an economic basketcase, all in the pursuit of maintain Serbian control and influence over former provinces of Tito's Yugoslavia.

I was SHOCKED to hear Mr. Shea, for the first time since I've been following the NATO briefings, use almost the very same verbage and context in today's briefing that I wrote in the above post. He called Serbia a "pariah" state and emphasized the economic chaos that Milosevic has inflicted on his own people.

Gustave, do you work for NATO?? Just curious to know if you're Mr. Shea's speech writer/briefer..... <VBG>

If so, PM me with the location where I can officially apply as a NATO research analyst/speech writer. I've never bothered to make it to Europe and I would thoroughly enjoy an assignment there....
