Yup, if a large illegal short position is there, a cusip# change will work. It forces an accounting of all shares. Old shares must be exchanged for new when they do a cusip# change. There are no work arounds that I am familiar with.

Estimates as to the size of the short position vary depending on who you talk to. They range from 10 to 70 million shares. And there are those who do not think there is an illegal short position at all... or so they say!

In order to short sell, you must borrow shares to sell into the market. It is illegal to sell shares into the market unless you have control over those shares. People suspect that sell orders have been placed for MDIN shares by short players that do not have possession of shares.
