The relevant text from a one-page "VCOP Fact Sheet" I got via EMail from the Project Manager:
"The Virtual Cockpit Optimization Program (VCOP) will integrate independently developed, advanced technologies into a single system. VCOP component technologies include a Virtual Retinal Display (VRD); fully integrated three-dimensional cockpit audio technologies to include three-dimensional audio, speech recognition and synthesis, and Integrated Caution, Warning, Advisory; an electronic data manager knee-board; and Rotorcraft Pilot's Associate (RPA) software. These technologies will enhance the pilot's intuitiveness, situational and threat awareness and effectiveness while providing a cost-effective means of modernizing legacy aircraft. In FY99, VCOP capabilities will be demonstrated on a simulator at the Advanced Prototyping, Engineering, and eXperimentation (APEX) Laboratory at Redstone Arsenal. VCOP will begin flight demonstration integration in FY00 and will be flight demonstrated on an UH-60 in FY01.
Nothing new here except possibly the timeline and the choice of aircraft.
AFTER EDIT:
Rotorcraft Pilot's Associate asinc.com
(1994-1998, McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems)
The Rotorcraft Pilot's Associate (RPA) project is presently the leading Army Aviation RT&E program. It continues the development of associate systems from the original DARPA Pilot's Associate technology base, applying these concepts combat helicopter operations. ASI has played a growing role in this program as a systems engineering and knowledge engineering consultant, and supplier of the crew intent interpreter software for the RPA.
