did you try to quit without "halt" ing first? No can do batman. A multitasking multi user system must be shutdown only after the system has told you that all run levels are exited and the system is halted. Otherwise you can get corrupted inodes. You must shutdown properly by issuing the "halt" command.

try this from a maintenance boot diskette "fsck -av /dev/hda[yourhd#]

if it's still trashed try "efsck -b 8193 [yourpartition i.e. /dev/hda2]

I am thinking that hda5 is your swap partition.. is that true? is hda2 your linux partition? Did you activate your swap partition properly?
