Ibexx, The rumor that MSFT has declined the addition to the NYSE would be reason enough for it to be included in the DOW 30 (assuming the refusal by MSFT is accurate).
My guess is that NYSE tried hard to lure Microsoft but had to give up. The Dow has been losing some of its importance given the attention paid to the Nasdaq recently. Adding MSFT and INTEL would again allow it to be representative of the biggest of the big cap stocks. This is what the Dow 30 should be anyways.
