The mistake of the US in Vietnam was in seeing the struggle as an ideological one, between 'Communism' and a concept which they called at the time 'Freedom' - while the great majority of Vietnamese saw their involvement as just another case of foreign interference. They saw China's the same way - look how they treated the Chinese after the US finally did the smart thing and went home.

There are likely valid parallels between Vietnam and Kosovo, but it's also possible imho to infer too much from the comparison. Same with the Easter 1941 Wehrmacht invasion. It's Easter 1999, the Serbs are engaged in their own little Endlösung in Kosovo while NATO is softening up Serbian 'defenses' in preparation for the inevitable [imho] NATO boots on Kosovo ground. Happy Easter, everybody.
