It sure seems that IDTC will be making a lot more deals with vaious ISP services.
>>"I think when IP telephony first came into the marketplace, a lot of people were having conferences [titled] 'How an ISP Can Become a Telco' because people felt that ISPs would be the perfect partner," says Mordy Rothberg, executive vice president, strategic development for IDT Corp.'s (www.idt.net) Net2Phone service. "[But] Internet telephony is not as simple as just putting gateways through your network and, boom, charging customers. If you would say to a telecom company, 'Hey, be an ISP, it's very simple--just set up a bank of modems,' ISPs would laugh at that."
He adds that many ISPs don't really want to become full-blown ITSPs and carry the burden that goes along with becoming a telecommunications provider, "they're looking for services to distinguish themselves from other ISPs." But, Rothberg says, for "the ones that do [want to become telcos], we have solutions for them as well."<< |
