The former inevitably ends up getting an emotional stomping.>> I suspect that in most of these cases, the love was more mutual at the beginning of the relationship when the two were the closest they would be to being on a par in the assortative mating game; then, when life changed the desirability-ratio, the one who ended up feeling shortchanged was resentful of the non-bargain he or she found he or she had come home from the marketplace with.
