I couldn't read Finnegan's Wake either, not being that interested in wordplay gone mad, and Ulysses seemed wonderful to me for about the first 100 - 150 pages, but then it got so phantasmagorical and so allusive it was annoying. But Dubliners and Portrait of the Artist I remember as being wonderful.
