All the current discussion on the viability of G* seems to be focused on handsets. Much of the current concern is the advancing build out and roaming agreements between service providers will reduce the need for G*. The 'developed' country's cellular user is left without a use for G*.

Dont loss site of the fact that a significant portion of the G* market will be devoted to fixed systems. IMHO the fixed market is the market that will bring in all the positive surprises. Handsets will do fine but there are too many people ready to say that there always was a market, and as a result it is not a surprise. The surprise will be all the service providers covering the far reaches of their areas with the fixed systems. It will not be right out of the starting gate, but within a year the ramp up for fixed systems will be significant. Once the value and ease of installation/build out is identified, the service providers will jump on this band wagon in a big way.
