The way my friend did the partitioning, he first cleaned out the drive of a total win95 setup (1 partition), then fdisked with 2 partitions, the second being put in as Linux, after putting in the win95 on the first. Whatever happened, it didn't boot up with the floppy, at starting the computer..Then he erased everything again (linux part. only, I think), tried it again, no luck, this time having erased both partitions, and redoing it all again. same result, as he said he thought he had forgot to put master boot record on part. 2- whatever happened, I reinstalled a working win95 on part. 1, and tried once more and failed with the linux part.2. no luck.
At this point I sent it off to the college computer guy, who installed it, but as I left no monitor, he could and did not set up xf86config. He did tell me there was a problem as someone had made a previous attempt, causing 'file system with errors, check forced' message at startup, but it did have workable access to directories, becoming superuser, etc. As it was left, what I instructed the guy to do when I brought it in:
put the linux os on the 2nd part, don't disturb the 1st win95 if possible. The HD is a 2.1 gig with about 9/16 of total space originally given to part 2, by friend. |
