(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 1999--Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq:VTSS) Monday announced that its enclosure management controllers are being used in Hewlett-Packard Company's HP FC1010D high-availability storage system, which ships Monday.
The Vitesse controllers, developed by Serano Systems Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Vitesse, manage the operating environment inside the FC101D to help ensure the continuous availability of data stored in the storage subsystem.
The Vitesse products, SSC100 and SSC050, in HP's FC1010D storage system enable remote management of enterprise-wide, mission-critical data and IT centers. Equipped with SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) controllers from Vitesse, the FC1010D offers greater availability of information and manageability of data centers. The SSC100 FC-AL Embedded Controller and SSC050 Two-Wire Backplane Controller monitor vital statistics within the system, such as fan speeds, temperature, power, supplies, disk drives, and notify an operator through the systems management application in the event of a failed component, or other pre-configured alarmed event. "Vitesse's SES controller has allowed us to add significant value to conventional storage enclosures," stated Tom Rallens, product marketing section manager for HP's Enterprise Storage Solutions Division. "HP customers now have the ability to remotely monitor the status of disk and non-disk components in a non-hardware array. This allows operations centers to maintain higher levels of availability."
The HP FC1010D provides a full solution for "lights out" data center control. Depending on the environment and structure of the data centers, the HP FC1010D is ideal for a variety of applications, including OLTP, data warehousing, analysis and financial applications.
