They outrage us because we are being fed a lot of propaganda- not that the Serbs aren't ethnically cleansing, but it isn't JUST them. We could have intervened at other times, to stop other cleansings and massacres in the Balkans- why now, why here? Because now and here suits larger interests. If we really cared about outrage we would have gone to East Timor, we would be in Africa, but we are not there. Nor will we yank MFN from China for doing outrageous things. If we expect Russian to keep their nose out of the Balkans but we have our big American bombs there why should the Russians not be outraged? If the Russians were bombing the breakaway republic of Texas how passive do you think Americans would be? This is foolish on our part, it may destroy Nato, and I do not understand why we waste our moral capital on something so ambiguous. Perception is everything and we are perceived (I think) by the majority of the world as being wrong here. Lots of countries still have massacres over ethnic/religious divisions and I do not believe the rest of the world (think of the huge populations of the former USSR, India and China please) has the same abhorence of "ethnic cleansing" as we do. That's just the way it is.
