WireMan Integrates Network and Cable Management; Easy to use Desktop Software Provides Drag and Drop Network Solution WireMan Integrates Network and Cable Management; Easy to use Desktop Software Provides Drag and Drop Network Solution Thursday, February 20, 1997 12:00:00 PM EST

MT. ROYAL, Quebec--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 1997--An Information System technician's time is valuable.

Information System Management time is even more valuable. Yet many industry experts estimate that as much as 80 percent of network troubleshooting time is spent just trying to find the physical location of suspect equipment and cabling. And that doesn't even include the time spent locating system resources for configuring network expansions and new equipment installations.

NHC's WireMan V2.0 addresses this problem by combining sophisticated network and cable management into one integrated, cost effective PC-based network solution. WireMan tracks and manages the physical assets of the network while providing SNMP tools to proactively monitor, configure and manage network devices. Available in scalable packages to control from 100 termination devices to 2,500, WireMan will track and control any cabling oriented network, including LAN, WAN, telephone and video.

"IS managers have always known that they needed network management tools," explained Stephane Namoko, Product Manager. "But only recently are businesses really recognizing the need for tracking cabling and other physical assets."

"The structured wiring system is the foundation of today's flexible, high performance networks. Ensuring it is fully documented is naturally sensible," continued Namoko.

The need for controlling physical assets is becoming more significant as cabling infrastructures are upgraded to support new technologies such as multimedia, video conferencing, and Intranets. Mergers and acquisitions further increase the importance of real time tracking of network assets as corporate organizations change.

WireMan reduces even the most complex network's cabling to an easily understood graphical image. WireMan shows the network resources, wiring closets, connections, and even how the connections relate to each other. In addition to displaying the system, WireMan permits moves, additions and changes, simply by dragging and dropping icons representing the different network resources including PCs, workstations, printers, routers, bridges, and cabling. When a change is made, the software automatically creates a work order detailing the equipment location and needed repairs or modifications.

Facilitating network expansions and new system installations, WireMan tracks all physical network elements, both voice and data, ensuring compatible connections and documenting and storing information regarding the network, resources, and cabling.

WireMan may also be used in conjunction with NHC's Switchex and ShareIt, NHC's intelligent cross connect switching system. Under the control of WireMan, Switchex replaces time consuming and error-prone network patch cord changes with simple mouse clicks, combining the process of network intelligence with the flexibility of physical connection changes, for fail safe operations and security of LAN, WAN or even video services.

WireMan also monitors the network, sending alarms when variables go outside of preset limits and can provide automatic notification via e-mail or page service.

Prices for WireMan begin at $1,000, depending on the number of monitored nodes. Technical support options include the company's Platinum Support Program which includes free updates, access to application notes on line, and training. WireMan requires a Pentium PC running Windows 3.1 or Windows 95.
