*AV*--Le'ts get this straight, it was an obnoxious snowdrift in Colorado. This Klondike Derby with the Boy Scouts was held in Gould Colorado. Check your maps and look for Cameron Pass (and check its elevation) and then you will see how nuts I really am.

I was dressed extremely warm but that means nothing when the temperature drops to 23 one night and 18 the next. Oh, did I forget to mention that those numbers were BELOW ZERO!!!! Never in the history of my Scout Troop (I am an assistant Scoutmaster) did we ever earn the 100 degree frost badge in one campout. You need to accumulate 100 degrees of camping temperature below 0 degrees in one winter camping season to get this FROST BADGE. Sometimes it takes 6 campouts in a season and sometimes it is never attained in a season. BUT NO, I HAVE TO BE RECOVERING FROM THE FLU AND ATTEND THE COLDEST KLONDIKE DERBY EVER. For those that are having trouble adding, both nights resulted in 105 degrees below 0. The only saving grace was that the temperature was measured in F, not C.

Well we survived, drank alot of hot jello, ate nasty food, and took turns freezing all parts of our bodies. And to top it all off, they never delivered the Klondike Derby patches to our troop site. The only thing that made matters worse was the 100 mile drive back into town during a snowstorm. Slipping and sliding down a mountain is the most fun next to a frontal lobotomy without anesthesia.
