Most of the starving is due to civil wars and to government oppression.

Actually, virtally ALL of the starvation in the world is due to human stupidity, cruelty, and/or greed, with a measure of indifference tossed in. Looking at the number of starving people gives you a pretty good measure of how pervasive human stupidity, cruelty, and greed are.
