I for one do not believe that the social sciences or humanities ought to suffer at the expense of promoting more pratical skills in university or college. There will always be a place for these disciplines IMO and yes, I agree that it does round out the person much more.

An appreciation of the arts, classical or alternative forms of music and nature in general is key if we want to reduce some of the stress in our lives. I believe my father was very instrumental in exposing me to these great diversions and I am grateful for that. In many cases, parents that lack an appreciation or understanding of the arts and sciences are unable to pass down an interest in following these pursuits to the children and as they grow older they are less well-rounded. Sports is but one aspect and all too often, the centre of many kids' universe and that can't be too good IMHO. I love baseball, hockey and soccer and still play some hockey when I can, but I also love to read a good book and relax with some Nat King Cole playing in the background sometimes too. That voice is just sooooooo soothing. Talk about a stress reliever!
