VeriSign Extends Support for Network Associates' Active Security Product Line Through Tight Integration With New PGP VPN Suite

Out-of-the-Box Support for PGP VPN Enables VeriSign OnSite to Provide Transparent Certificate Management for Network Associates Customers

April 5, 1999 09:01 AM
OAKLAND, Calif., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- VeriSign, Inc., VRSN the world's leading provider of Internet trust services, today announced integration with Network Associates' NETA Active Security product line. VeriSign certificates are supported out-of-the-box in the new PGP VPN suite, a complete end-to-end VPN solution from Network Associates that supports all major interoperability standards, including IPSec, IKE, x.509 and LDAP. The integration of VeriSign OnSite services into Network Associates' new PGP VPN suite makes certificate enrollment and authentication simple and transparent, improving enterprise security and lowering total cost of ownership for the companies' joint customers.
Network Associates' PGP VPN suite, announced and shipping today, combines the award-winning Gauntlet VPN server with the new PGP VPN client to provide an interoperable, standards-compliant, end-to-end VPN solution that allows organizations to communicate securely over low-cost public Internet connections, dramatically reducing the expenses associated with connecting remote sites and users over traditional dial-up or leased lines. To deliver maximum value to joint customers, Network Associates has enabled its VPN products to communicate via the VeriSign Certificate Request Syntax (CRS) protocol, which also allows network administrators to centrally manage digital certificate enrollment, authentication, and lifecycle management.

"With the integration of VeriSign's trust services into our PGP VPN suite, our enterprise customers have the ability to tap into the strength and scalability of one of the world's leading certificate authorities," said Peter Watkins, executive vice president of worldwide product management at Network Associates. "This combination of services and products allows our customers to benefit from best-of breed security offerings and deploy a comprehensive security solution more quickly and easily than assembling the components themselves."

VeriSign's digital certificate and public key infrastructure (PKI) services enable enterprises to conduct lifecycle management functions, such as certificate enrollment, renewal, revocation and replacement, in conjunction with a certificate management system without having to employ a Web user interface. As part of the Active Security solution, VeriSign digital certificates and PKI services will integrate with Network Associates security products to ensure that enterprise users and security devices can be strongly authenticated as they communicate across public and private networks.

"VeriSign and Network Associates' unprecedented integration of solutions enables IT executives to deploy and maintain low-cost, multi-point security solutions such as VPNs with substantially less risk," said Stratton Sclavos, president and CEO of VeriSign. "As leaders in the security industry, VeriSign and Network Associates are committed to providing our customers with seamless interoperability between our respective security products and services."

The new PGP VPN suite is part of Network Associates' Active Security product line. Network Associates' integrated Active Security solution, announced and shipping today, addresses the growing complexity of enterprise networks -- challenging the current state of affairs whereby security products work as standalone components, allowing threats to "fall through the cracks." The Net Tools Secure suite from Network Associates combines best-of-breed security products like Gauntlet, CyberCop, PGP and VirusScan. All integrated communications between the component products occur through a secure, authenticated, standards-based central event manager known as Event Orchestrator. This revolutionary "hub and spoke" integration method helps make the long sought-after goal of central security policy and event management a practical reality for corporations of all sizes.
