Well let me reiterate to you. You won't get anywhere with windows NT without reading the manual either.

Don't be stupid. This is a massive, potentially one gigabyte operating system alone! It is multi tasking and multi user. A full blown Unix that can operate a large network gracefully. To operate Linux you need some sysadmin ability and user know how. You must be tool and fixit oriented. If you thought that you could do it without reading the man pages and the documents and an aftermarket manual you were dead wrong.

Basically however besides not reading a coupla hundred pages you got installed wrong it seems.

A lot of people who post here have obviously had Unix or programming experience. I still say that by walking through Patrick Volkerding's manual on installation that comes with Slackware 3.6 or getting the various aftermarket books like Linux Secrets or some of the O'Reilly series on Linux you can make it work and cure all ills. They say that you should work with a complete Unix manual as well. I have a Unix manual, a Linux Sysadmin's Manual, a pocket Linux command reference, Linux Undercover, Linux Secrets, a Unix tutorial book and some other references for Linux and Unix. About ten books in all. And that my friend is the tip of the iceberg. I have found that it takes looking through about 3 books to find solutions at times.

Start again by reading about Linux and how to install it. there are some useful walkthroughs on the Linux homepage
