Michael:

I agree with you completely. The fact that DCTM doesn't get
to capitalize on its lead thanks to Y2K stuff is unfortunate.
However it does lead to an interesting conclusion. Just as
commoditized functionality is evolving for some basic DM
functions, DCTM's also performing an internal transformation
into a "web applications company" as announced recently. This
means that the transformation has to be silky smooth.
Otherwise they'll see an erosion of margins on existing
products and not get out of their current bind for quite a
while although they'll have good products.

IMHO IBM would be a perfect fit as a buyer. At this price,
it would be hard to go wrong. Also it makes sense with
IBM's push into KM via Notes that they should look for a real
backend that has the functionality that DCTM's EDMS does. DCTM
would gain quite a bit too with IBM's marketing clout. Of
course the software graveyard (CA) may be a possibility as well
but I suspect that DCTM's management won't yield to it as easily
as they will to IBM.

Now imagine if someone from DCTM reads this board and the idea
becomes reality :-)
