C-Cube Introduces Versatile ZiVA-Card Development Platform, Simplifies and Accelerates Manufacturers

TOKYO, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- C-Cube Microsystems Inc , the market leader in integrated digital video
solutions, today unveiled a reference platform for makers of PC add-in cards and OEM PC configurations that
will dramatically simplify DVD manufacturing and accelerate deployment. C-Cube is working with industry
multimedia giant Diamond Multimedia on C- Cube's ZiVA-Card for its DVD video boards. Based on C-Cube's ZiVA
family of integrated DVD decoders, the ZiVA-Card platform features the industry's highest level of integration,
the most comprehensive feature set available and an advanced programmable architecture. Designs based on
ZiVA decoder can take full advantage of Dolby Digital (also known as AC-3) sound technology for a true
home-theater experience.

About ZiVA-Card

The ZiVA-Card DVD-PC reference platform maximizes system-level flexibility in a tightly integrated form factor.
The single PCI add-in board supports the highest level of DVD functionality including full 30 fps playback, Dolby
Digital (AC-3) 5.1-channel audio output, optimized audio/video synchronization, on-board digital copy protection
circuitry and MacroVision 7 for anti-taping protection. The board has multiple stuffing options that enable it to
conform to the various PC and graphics architectures available in the PC marketplace.

C-Cube's ZiVA decoder products are the first integrated audio/video decoders to receive Dolby certification for
the Dolby Digital specification. The Dolby Digital design ensures customers experience the highest quality six-
channel audio, including the unique sensation of surround effects.

The ZiVA decoder family's advanced microcoded architecture enables developers to adapt features without
modifying their hardware platform, providing added design flexibility and speeding time-to-market. Software
feature enhancements and extensions are supported through a comprehensive high-level API. ZiVA-Card
design also incorporates multiple video implementations, and allows two methods of DVD playback that can
be coupled with any graphics architecture. The ZiVA-Card platform includes optional on- board video scaling
and overlay and a flexible video side port that makes the platform adaptable with virtually every graphics
controller available. In addition, the ZiVA-Card supports both the DVD 1.0 and VideoCD 2.0 media formats.
VideoCD 2.0 is widely used in the Asian consumer electronics market.

Availability

The ZiVA-Kit will be available the beginning of the second quarter.
