Cambridge Minerals Soars into the Online Travel Industry
Vancouver, BC, April 5th /SHfn/ Vancouver-based Cambridge Minerals Ltd. has invested $100,000 in Realm Group Inc., a 19-year-old industry specific website developer and creator of Discover Canada Online. In exchange for the investment, Cambridge retains 49% of the Discover Canada concept, the remaining 51% held by Realm. Speaking with StockHouse this morning, Craig Schneider, Manager of Corporate Development with Cambridge indicated that through a "sweet-heart deal that couldn't be passed on," Cambridge made the decision to move from the ranks of the junior resource sector to the on-line travel business.
Having recently brought on Robert McMorran who now serves as President, Cambridge undertook a drastic restructuring that together with Glen Phillips, President of Realm, oversaw the transformation at Cambridge. By the "end of the month," Schneider says, Cambridge will institute a corporate name change and will become known as Cambridge Ventures Inc.
The Discover Canada Online website has been running since 1996, says Schneider but the site, "is currently being totally revamped and will be launched shortly." At present, the site can be viewed at www.discovercanada.com but Schneider could not release a definite date for launch. Bookings for Discover Canada Online will be facilitated through the Discover Canada Travel Desk, Operated by Seven Seas Travel, an American Express Travel Services representative. Ross McCredie, Partner in BC-based Seven Seas Travel Ltd., sits on the American Express Travel Marketing Board and through Discover Canada, will link over 1700 worldwide American Express Travel offices in 160 countries to the Site. The exposure that Discover Canada will get through the American Express links will serve as a springboard for future development plans. "We're very excited about the potential here," Schneider went further and hinted at one day growing into Discover Australia and Discover UK. Right now, Schneider admits that while Cambridge has entered into a completely new business venture, their present-term goal is to focus on British Columbia and Alberta travel opportunities, to be the best in Canada first and then expand beyond into foreign markets. "There is great potential for future expansion and Cambridge." Developing the Canadian market first seems to be where the company is focused, "Realm and Cambridge intend to expand and update the content of Discover Canada in order to establish Discover Canada as the Internet's premier source of information for Canadian destination travel," according to a company news release.
Cambridge recently announced that Discover Canada has signed Rocky Mountain Railtours to its Discover Canada Travel Partner program. Schneider says that Rocky Mountain is the first of a number of Discover Canada Travel Partners that will be announced in the coming weeks. "There will be a press release soon announcing our latest strategic partnership."
