Strangely enough I agree with you. The reason IBM has sold 1.5m seats of Domino.doc is not because of its commodity pricing (although that removes a barrier to implementation), but because of the 18,000 Notes partners out their who can build the exact KM application required by the business using the toolkit provided by domino.

The shift I was referring to was not the one from traditional DM to Messaging (or DFS) based DM, but the one from a Product based future for DM to a Services based future for KM. This shift feels almost exactly the same as the shift from Hardware to software that occured in the early 80's.

I feel this is much bigger than just the DM sector, but we are feeling it first (why? is another question).

I am not saying that the overall pie is getting any smaller (in fact it is growing logarithmically), just that the product component is becoming a commodity and the services needed to turn that commodity into a solution are becoming larger ... good news for you and your ilk ... bad news for product companies like DCTM who have staked their future on the bloated margins they have received on product to date.

I often see yahooligans saying things like "I can't understand why this stock is tanking in growing market" ... the answer is clear ... the market is growing, but not the market they think.
