In my experience it is usually mothers who take the time to culturally enrich the kids.

There is an extremely bizarre undercurrent in our society which suggests that culture is unmanly. My father taught me to appreciate classical music and literature at the same time he was teaching me to shoot, fish, handle small boats and cut firewood; I never saw any contradiction. Certainly wasn't his fault that I proved more adept at the second group than at the first. I sort of regret that now: I'm trying to pass on the same mix to my own children, but I haven't nearly as much culture to pass.
