Albert, Birck's exact works in the annual report were "To complete the picture, we must quickly move into the data-centric packet area, and do so in a way that complements our array of new and existing networking products". He went on to say "That suggest some type of acquisition or joint venture is in order, because there is not time to start from scratch and be a factor in the marketplace."
To me, the key words were "acquisition or joint venture". I still feel that with all their suffering over the Ciena acquisition deal still fresh in mind, Birck will try his best to make it a joint venture.
