TranSwitch Patent on CellBus Switch Fabric Technology
SHELTON, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 1999--TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), announced today that a critical patent on TranSwitch's CellBus(R) technology has recently been allowed by the U.S. Patent Office.
CellBus(R) is a proprietary, bus-based, switch fabric technology developed by TranSwitch to support the requirements of the broadband access market. This technology was first incorporated into TranSwitch's CUBIT and CUBIT-Pro VLSI devices. These devices, when connected across a common CellBus(R) backplane, can be used to create cost effective data multiplexers and ATM switches.
"The continued rapid growth in Internet traffic has spurred a network migration by the leading carriers from a voice centric to a data centric structure," stated Ian Ramsden, Director of Strategic Marketing with TranSwitch. "CellBus(R) technology is specifically targeted at the edge of this network where the requirements are to concentrate traffic from many low-speed connections, such as Dial-up, T1/E1 or xDSL into a larger bandwidth connection such as T3, OC-3 or OC-12. A CellBus(R)-based system architecture is ideal for these edge applications, particularly as the network migration further evolves to Fiber to the Curb (FTTC) and Passive Optical Networking (PON) architectures.
"TranSwitch CellBus(R) technology has been adopted into the system designs of over 40 customers, including the top 5 global Telecom suppliers, each of whom has recognized the distinct advantages that a CellBus(R) architecture can offer. The current range of system applications covers ATM, IP and voice switching. Future CellBus(R) products will support similar applications with increased functionality and performance and will allow our customers to take advantage of this technology well into the next millennium," concluded Ramsden.
