One doesn't have to side with the Serbs to think this war is stupid. One doesn't necessarily lack compassion if one does not wish to see the US intercede in this civil war. In fact I would argue that people with real compassion see the greater misery that lies ahead brought by the destruction of NATO and the further debasement of the US in the eyes of the rest of the world which will greatly diminish our ability to help in conflicts where the moral imperative may be MUCH clearer.

It is all too easy to be carried along without thinking. But in our lives, and in the lives of nations, it is always most prudent to look ahead and try to imagine the endgame. I cannot imagine a positive endgame here. Either we get the Serbs to back down now (and then later more bloodshed errupts as soon as we leave). OR we get our ass kicked and there is still bloodshed plus the US looks even more foolish than we did before. OR we leave an occupying force. OR the Russian bear awakes and this conflict becomes more dangerous. Now tell me- which of these looks GOOD to you?
