You aparently made it for me. There is a difference between shorting a stock and buying puts. You are placing a bet on the stock going down, but your upside risk is strictly limited to the premium you paid for the put. I know that you understand this point, but the point that I'm trying to make is that to say you're "short" when you haven't actually shorted the stock is incorrect. I'd say that you're much more certain that a correction is imminent when you'll short a stock rather than when you'll buy puts instead (the latter being the better strategy, IMHO).

Your conviction, in reality, is much less than you make it seem when you claim to be "short".
