Alan,

Good news. I searched the SI boards last night and found someone who was posting very technical comments on the Intel and AMD threads about Rambus. I sent him a PM asking him the question about DDR DRAM instability, and here's the answer I received this morning:

Well, the short answer is the signals on DDR SDRAM aren't "symmetrical", i.e. one set of pins have differing electrical characteristics than another. RDRAM's signals are all symmetric since all the data is packetized.

He said that he'd put together a longer response and post it on our thread Wednesday or Thursday.

Re: the current Nintendo memory, I don't know if the older Rambus products use both edge of the clock or not, but that isn't a big technical issue -- the use of both edges of a clock is pretty easy to do. The problem with DRDRAM doesn't appear to be the clock (from the articles I've seen) -- it's the more stringent electrical characteristics (impedance, etc.)

Finally, with respect to Intel, I personally don't think we'll get a lot more detail any time soon. Intel is pretty conservative about overpromising from what I've seen. In February they announced a slip from June to September of the Camino chip, and I doubt that they will announce anything significantly more detailed in early April, after only another 6 weeks (and still 6 weeks before the original date). I wish they would, but I doubt it.
