Will you guys quit looking at this on a tick for tick basis? Forget about what is happening to Vivus stock price each trading hour. That is EXACTLY what the market makers want you to do especially when they drop the bid down but keep the ask at the same level. A 3/32 spread on a sub $4.00 stock IMO tells me that the trading is in short term limbo. The market makers will gladly buy(cover) at 5/8 or 21/32 and then sell(short) those same shares for 23/32 or 3/4. We need a few new institutions to start taking positions in Vivus and then the short position will get confirmation of their a## kicking. FWIW, as of April 1, 1999, ninety one institutions owned 20.04% of outstanding Vivus stock or 6,337,000. (Source: Market Guide) IMO institutional ownership WILL increase in the near future as certain uncertainties regarding Vivus become certainties. Don't forget that Vivus is a small cap NASDAQ stock which if given the proper set of news/circumstances can show some rapid appreciation which IMO is long over due.
