John,
Spent some time looking at the stocks you mention catp,
odis, and iona. Some real interesting stuff... if you had
to bet on one, which would you pick? I have only 2 positions
right now.. SIPX and Cisco. The CSCO is a long term hold
that I am hoping is going to put my kids through collage and
let me retire someday. Sipx is medium term (1 year) for
capital gains reasons, though I would move from that position
if there was good reason. From an IRA account, I have some
cash I don't mind moving in and out quickly... though admittedly
I have been on a loosing streak prior to SIPX... I am almost
a blue chip convert now, though I admit the allure of triple
digit growth in small caps is something that is hard to walk
away from... my most resent bad call was BGP (Borders.. which
I walked from after a few months at a slight loss).... The
good news is I am getting better at understanding how companies
work and the markets... but my timing still needs work...
I still hold 2000 shrs of Gandalf (GANDF) a communications
company that went tits up.. Over the last 3 years i've
not quite doubled my money, but I could have done that
by sticking it in a fund and having no worries (or fun).
Read a few books on investing, and the value of my holdings
has taken some really wild swings... I have been getting
more conservative after a few really whopper losses (and
a few whopper wins too). And you?
