Peppe --
Late in the conference call, someone asked about Cisco's equipment and was told, "There is some in the network now. We're moving strongly to add NN as we speak."
A little history. TeleHub chose Cisco back in August of '97 and very quickly announced it was using NN's technology in its national network.
First, the Cisco announcement:
<<<<SAN JOSE, Calif. - August 13, 1997 - TeleHub Network Services announced today that it will deploy its proprietary software, Virtual Access Services Platform (VASP), on Cisco's Stratacom BPX Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switches. VASP is based on technology that integrates Signaling System 7 (SS7) and ATM on a distributed, fully fault-tolerant system that offers a unified management, control and billing platform. The result is a carrier-class switched voice service over ATM.
TeleHub will deploy the software over its new high-speed nationwide Cisco ATM network. VASP will enable TeleHub to offer superior quality and differentiated long distance services to local exchange carriers (LECs), independent telephone companies (ITCs) and other phone companies. Future plans include deployment of mediated access services, which are mandated in the Telecom Reform Act (Section 251), through the support of ATM Switched Virtual Circuits (SVCs) on Cisco switches and TeleHub's integrated connection management.

Then five months later, their decision to go with NN:
<<< January 1998 TeleHub Selects Siemens / Newbridge Alliance for Nationwide Voice and Data ATM Network
Switched Voice Services to be Included in Multiservices Network HERNDON, Virginia and BOCA RATON, Florida, January 12, 1998 — TeleHub Network Services has selected the industry-leading Siemens / Newbridge MainStreetXpress 36170 Multiservices Switch and MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager for its nationwide asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)-based multiservices network. TeleHub's broadband network will be the first network optimized to deliver switched voice, data and video services over a multiservices platform. "By utilizing TeleHub's unique VASP technology along with the MainStreetXpress 36170 platform's voice and data handling capabilities, modularity and scalability, we can optimize our network and cost-effectively deliver value-added features such as unbundled Mediated Access and Number Portability over a flexible ATM fabric," said Mike Mclaughlin, Chief Operations Officer,Telehub Network Services.

One thing's clear: Newbridge and not Cisco is TeleHub's joint venture partner. The fact that Cisco came out with the release they did indicates they're threatened and feel a need to sow the seeds of confusion. SBC has worked with both NN and Cisco and today NN's 12 months in the lead. What's that in technology years? You do the math.
As for agility, by snagging SS7 away from the gorilla, Alan's right up there with Nuryev.
