Coordinator From Magnum Technologies Automatically Pinpoints Root Cause of Event Storms

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1999--A new product from
Magnum Technologies, Inc. automatically understands the relationship
between devices, and identifies the root cause of an IT problem -- all
with no human intervention.

Says Magnum Tech President Greg Crow, who spent years in the IT
trenches dealing with problems like these before developing this product,
"This allows operations staff to immediately focus on solving
the real problem -- not trying to find it."

The new product, Coordinator, is available immediately.

How Coordinator works When a flurry of events is sent to
the Coordinator, the product filters out approximately 80 percent
of the alarms immediately and then correlates the rest to pinpoint
the true event that caused the storm.

Today, a high percentage of companies still do event monitoring
manually. Coordinator increases staff productivity substantially by
automating this function and automatically opening problem tickets,
decreasing the mean time to repair. The product is easy to use and
will help with typical problems caused by staff turnovers.

Most installations of Coordinator can be completed in less than
an hour. Coordinator will automatically integrate HP Openview or IBM
NV/6000 management platforms for network and system information. Once
installed, as new devices are added or removed, Coordinator will
automatically sync at the same time -- an important part of Magnum's
zero administration approach.

Correlated (root cause) events are displayed in Java client, the
event browser(s). The correlated events can be double-clicked to
display the raw events (effects). By utilizing the web for
presentation, minimal network and system resources are used and much
broader company usage is possible.

KN Energy Inc., a $9 billion integrated energy services company
that operates in 16 states, deployed Coordinator in December 1998.
Bill Brownrigg, manager of strategic planning and technology, has
overseen the project. "We expect Coordinator's ability to correlate
network events and determine root cause will significantly lower the
amount of time required to troubleshoot network problems," Brownrigg
said.

Finally, integrating other third party products is a snap with
Coordinator's external command interface. By using this flexible
integration point, end users can easily tie Coordinator into any
existing or new product in the IT infrastructure, Crow said.

Minneapolis-based Magnum Technologies, Inc. helps solve IT
problems and provide significant value to its clients through
leading-edge network and system management tools that monitor and
safeguard IT performance, increase network and system reliability, and
provide the best possible return on a company's IT investment. Magnum
Technologies' parent company is Global MAINTECH.

Founded in 1992, Global MAINTECH (NASDAQ BB: GLBM) manufactures
and sells computer systems that monitor and control a wide range of
data center computers. The company's core product, the Virtual Command
Center (VCC), is a master console that provides simultaneous control,
