As for agility, by snagging SS7 away from the gorilla, Alan's right up there with Nuryev.
Right technology, wrong gorilla. NT and LU own SS7 technology and the ability to talk to voice networks via SS7 is ultimately owned by these 2 gorillas.
Alls I'm saying is that CSCO tried to do the same thing with Telehub in August of 1997. Now, 20 months later, NN announces a similiar deal, except this one includes a JV with an equity stake in Telehub.
SS7 technology is imnportant to have, but judging from the markets ho-hum reaction, NN didn't do a very good job of selling their perceived leadership in the field.
Good technology, poor marketing ? Poor technology, poor marketing ? Maybe just poor credibility ...
