NW--- I ran in Lake Erie alot. It is known for the fast sudden storms. After being caught numerous times 30 +- miles from port in 8 - 10' waves I questioned my sanity but still went back... When normally on flat water it was easy returning at 30 knots in bad weather it took hours at 2 - 5 knots--- water coming in on 3 sides--- fun,, yeah,Right! I did Walleye on Erie and trout and salmon on Ontario.. mostly out of 22 - 28' vessels--- the 26' Thompson Fisherman was a favorite as it took the bad stuff like one much bigger and was very deep.. no one could fall overboard... when the water is cold and it gets ugly there is no sense in a life jacket-- if the worst happens make it quick,,, I used GPS for accuracy and Loran for repeatability,,, they were very close but I liked 2 or more (3 pumps) of everything, including radios, for the offshore fishing |
