Re: Your Threatened Contempt Proceeding Against Bill Clinton

Dear Judge Webber Wright:

I just had a telephone conversation today with Mr. James Neal, who
administers the Arkansas Committee on Professional Conduct. This Committee is at least supposed to discipline Arkansas lawyers for unethical conduct, regardless of who they are. That's the theory anyway.

Mr. Neal tells me that the dozens and dozens of Bar grievances filed
against Mr. Clinton alleging perjury, subornation of perjury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and rape cannot proceed even to the probable cause phase until you act upon your threat to require Mr. Clinton to show cause why he should not be held in contempt for lying under oath in your presence. In other words, your inaction has frozen the disciplinary process.

Further, your retention of jurisdiction of this dismissed case for
contempt proceedings is to keep in place a gag order that serves to protect the President from further embarrassment, and now, as I indicate, to frustrate, totally, the disciplinary machinery of the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Your Honor, I should like to ask you, on behalf of the countless
folks who have taken the trouble to file Bar grievances against this most prominent Arkansas lawyer, the following: Will you please dispose of the contempt matter--either have a hearing or decide, finally, not to have one--so that the disciplinary process can proceed to resolution?

I know federal judges are busy, but so are the rest of us. Let's
resolve it, one way or the other, as I am sure Mr. Clinton would like to start dating again.

Best,
John B. Thompson

Copy to Mr. Neal with this note: Mr. Neal: I appreciate your confirming today, inadvertently, that your office is doing absolutely nothing to investigate any of the allegations against Mr. Clinton found in the numerous filed Bar grievances. For example, you have not contacted Juanita [Broaddrick] Hickey, and, of course, none of your staff has contacted me about my sworn declaration filed in Jones v. Clinton. Your admissions are very useful. Please advise immediately who your counsel is that will be representing you in the anticipated writ of mandamus action in which we shall be able to point out that your investigation is as active as the concept of
legal ethics in Arkansas.
