After spending all of the last twelve years building a business and family I've recently gotten some free time which I have used to again bring myself up to date by reading all of the SF & fantasy that I've missed so much. I found that a great way to catch up was Amazon's awards screen. I've bought all of the Hugo and Nebula award winners for the last 12 years and after reading about 8 of these novels not one of them is a loser.

Of course anything written by Robert Heinlein is by definition a favorite work of mine. I would especially recommend his novels, "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress" and "Glory Road" as great SF & fantasy repsectively.

I also love Jerry Pournelle's novels including those he coauthored with Niven and his own Tran and Sparta series.

If you like Farmer what about his Dayworld series and "Lord Tyger". Both are highly recomended.
