Hewlett-Packard press release from last May. You have a good memory!
-----/-----------

I believe the big push to develop a blue LED was just so that, in combination with red and green, a three-color LED system could be built that would cover the complete color spectrum by additive color. LEDs could then be considered for applications requiring full-color video.

GELcore says their white light LEDs will be proprietary. That may refer to GE's contribution, phosphors and plastics. Whatever they mean, I wouldn't want to be up against GE in those areas.

I'm not aware of anything from Kopin involving gallium nitride. They do own 65% of the Korean company Kowon, which makes gallium arsenide optoelectronic products, including LED lamps and displays. That was in the recent 10-K. So, Kopin has now joined the ranks of multi-national conglomerates.
