Cloning a telomerase homolog

Has anybody seen the news that three scientists at Amgen, Inc. (along with the U. of Toronto) have cloned a mammalian telomerse homolog named TP1? I wasn't aware of any Amgen-Geron collaborations, so are they potential competitors? This cloning alone may not change any "balances-of-power" in the telomerase arena, but does it suggest the interest of Amgen in this field? TP1 may be one of two components that constitute a telomerase machine- so cloning & overexpressing this enzyme could greatly help any companies screening program.

What do the people on this thread think? Neutral or Good news for Amgen? Bad news for anybody else? Or couldn't the investors care less about the science?
