HP business unit exec's will be given more authority to make decisions such as acquistions ??

Hewlett-Packard Gives Top Execs More Authority

PALO ALTO, Calif. (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) Tuesday named four top executives to head their respective divisions in a
move designed to make the computing company more responsive to changing business climates.

Ann Livermore was named President and CEO of the company's Enterprise Computing Solutions division, while Duane Zitzner took the same title in the
Computer Products division, as did Antonio Perez in Inkjet Imaging Solutions and Carolyn Ticknor in LaserJet Imaging Systems.

Hewlett-Packard Chairman Lewis Platt said in a statement that the new division heads were all ''skilled, aggressive leaders.''

Although they already had considerable autonomy running their divisions, the changes would give them, ''full authority to adapt their business models to their own competitive
landscapes.'' Platt said.

The division heads would have more power to select business acquisitions and make alliances and approve spending on research and development. In addition, pay based on
financial performance was likely to be extended beyond senior management, he added.

The move was the latest in a series of changes the 60 year-old company has adopted recently to remain a leading player in an environment increasingly dominated by new
Internet companies. The company is spinning off its test and measurement operations in a move that will create two separate companies.
