To be honest with you, even I was surprised by this NT inside the box. Most of the news came out last year geared toward a strategy to make inter-operability easy and mostly focused on the network side of things. I think the workstation side of the story was kept at a low profile or even a secret until now. Even now, I don't know how it works. Internally, we are upgrading to PCI-based workstations. I'll try to get a card to learn how it works exactly. The idea is not novel though, but probably just at the right time. A decade ago, one of Sun's high profile competitors came out with a PC card, but it was priced as a hobby kit and the card went nowhere. Good thing Sun is giving away this card to customers who buy server class machines. Now, if somehow Sun can make this NT card into a multi-user NT, that will open up access to PC applications to a lot more Sun users. Also, if pricing is right, this card will save a lot of money for developers who develop on both Solaris and NT since they don't have to pay for and upkeep two separate boxes. This is an excellent way to defend our workstation market. I think the market moved Sun up today to reflect this value add from Sun. The irony here is Sun has just made MSFT NT a little more viable - not that it needs any help from Sun. I hope this little positive addition to MSFT will sooth its crowd on this thread.
