You forgot to include the 2nd paragraph in your posting. It contains a less insignificant reason to get NT out the door: Sun's PCi card that runs NT/apps, with no performance degradation, as an application to Solaris. Users will be able to run MS "Office" on their Ultras. Running Solaris on Sun equipment instead of buying PC's & licensing NT will simplify system administration and improve RAS and security at the low end of the workstation market. Most importantly, the cost will be competitive with whatever Wintel has to offer. So you get much, much more for the same price with Sun. Ballmer & Butthead should quit while they're still ahead. PC NetLink is based on actual Microsoft NT 4.0 code that Sun licensed from AT&T, said Mark Canepa, general manager of Sun's workgroup server division. Sun also announced a disk storage array that is certified for Windows NT as well as a card containing a separate microprocessor that lets Sun workstations run Windows NT.
