My reference to the blue diode was partly in jest, but I do remember the big fuss a while back when it was achieved

SIDT is suggesting the use of FET or Diamond
sources for displays and along with SONY will
be holding a meeting sometime this month. Sooner
or later the FPD will have to replace the CRT, and
the more efficient LEDs provide our illumination
at great savings. Hopefully in my lifetime but
then I am an old optimist!
