Thats besides the point. Your point was that we're protected by two big oceans. Fact is, we're not. US military and diplomatic vigilance is. And part of that involves selling arms to regimes whose continued existence is in our interest. A good part of that interest was in arming buffer nations to keep the Russians and Chinese hemmed in. You see, we were not advocating worldwide armed revolution, the Russians and (especially) the Chinese were. As to the US being the largest arms exporter, that is a recent phenomenon. Up until the Gulf War, the USSR/Russia was. After the Gulf War, demand for Soviet materiel dropped like a stone. We make good stuff. The Russian goods sucked. End story.
