Atlanta 11, Philadelphia 3 ATLANTA (TICKER) -- Greg Maddux normally beats opponents with his right arm. Tonight he also did it with his bat. In addition to limiting the Philadelphia Philles to one run over six innings, Maddux hit his first homer in nearly seven years in the fourth inning and added a two-run single later in the frame to power the Atlanta Braves to an 11-3 rout. Maddux (1-0) was not his usual dominant self in his 400th career start, needing 88 pitches to get through six innings. He gave up eight hits and struck out five to improve to 22-11 lifetime against Philadelphia. "I thought I threw pretty good," Maddux said. "I gave up more hits than I should have. I could've located pitches better."
