Advanced Marketing Services CEO Talks to Wall Street

Transcript
Business Wire - April 06, 1999 16:13
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1999--The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with Michael Nicita of Advanced MArketing Services (Nasdaq:ADMS), in which he talks at length about his company's future.

He says, "We are a leading distributor of books and other media to specialized retailers in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Mexico. What that means is that we purchase books from a number of different sources, poll retailers for their register sales, and match the books we have purchased with the retailer's needs. We do this for over a million books per week, on average, shipping them to specialty retailers like the warehouse clubs, office superstores, specialty retailers and computer superstores in the United States, gardening centers and gift and craft shops in the U.K. and various retailers in Mexico.

He explains, "We have a separate publishing division under the acronym APG, Advantage Publishers Group, which itself has three different imprints: Silver Dolphin for juvenile titles; Thunder Bay for promotional books; and Laurel Glen for traditional trade books. That group specializes in working with publishers in developing products that we then can potentially ship to both our distribution customers and other retailers, like Barnes and Noble and Borders. This has been a very important and exciting development for us."

Looking forward, he states, "There is enormous opportunity for AMS both domestically and internationally to expand and grow profitably. From a cash flow basis we remain extremely strong. We carry no debt and have cash in excess of our foreseeable working capital needs. And finally, though past performance is no guarantee of what's going to happen in the future, our past performance is one of an innovative company able to execute consistent, positive results."
