Mohan, Linux is just what is needed to make Intel based servers an ubiquitous business reality. It affects the desktop market marginally and the workstation market moderately. But the main effect IMO will be felt in the server market, which presently lacks a enterprise strength O/S. I haven't had first-hand experience of adminstaring Linux servers, but have heard only good things about it (but I would rather wait till the honeymoon is over). However, Linux is rock-solid in my experience in PC desktops. So, given that PC servers are a small market presently, which mainframes and Unix servers on non-Intel platforms are big, Linux indeed opens up a new market for Intel based vendors like DELL. While in the long run Linux may well capture the desktop as well - launching a browser is the same in Linux or Win98 and browsing is all that most desktop users do 90% of the time - that doesn't open up a new market. JMHO. -BGR.
