Quickly Integrates Diverse Database Environments
and Delivers Timely Results for Mission-Critical Applications
SNDCF Sand Technology Systems International Inc. today announced that The National Security Agency (NSA) has implemented Nucleus for use within two mission-critical Agency applications.
The first application, the management of Year 2000 programs by Nucleus, utilizes Nucleus to integrate many NSA database environments into one, so NSA executives can effectively monitor and manage the progress of specific Year 2000 projects in a timely manner. The second Nucleus application delivers to NSA an integrated financial system used for fiscal budgeting tracking, procurement, acquisition and payment analysis and providing timely financial information brought about by the increased governmental spending oversight by Congress.
Over the course of time, NSA, like many organizations, has purchased and implemented a wide variety of heterogeneous enterprise and departmental systems that represent various types of databases, applications and data structures. After evaluating Nucleus over a period of time, NSA found that Nucleus delivered the unique capability to successfully integrate and assimilate these environments in a rapid and effective manner, without the need for specialized technical resources. NSA found Nucleus provided a robust, easy-to-use platform for developing, deploying and accessing analytical systems from its heterogeneous systems, regardless of environment. As with most mission-critical applications, these systems are highly visible, information changes rapidly and the requirement for accurate answers are very time sensitive.
"During a time of diminishing resources, and a large scale Y2K effort, we began a quest for a tool kit to allow information retrievals without incurring a large cost," stated an executive with NSA. "To allow senior managers to inquire composite data from multiple resources and languages we turned to Sand Technology and Nucleus. Nucleus has afforded us the capability to interactively evaluate business rules, logic and practices without adversely impacting our daily end user production environment and Y2K efforts. The technology has proven its worth and we're able to quickly respond to external inquiries from congressional oversight committees and other governmental agencies. With Nucleus, we have begun to build new business systems that separate information exchange from transaction efforts."
"We've seen Nucleus excel in both governmental and corporate environments that must quickly integrate diverse database environments for the deployment of departmental data marts used by executives for enhanced decision making, improved business intelligence and timely analysis of evolving business initiatives," stated Kevin M. Horigan, Executive Vice President, Sand.
