WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday it was confident its air traffic computers will work correctly at the end of the year, with Year 2000 work already completed on 88 percent of systems ...

Cheryl,

Guess what: 88% compliance is down 11 percentage points from September 1998. Not only that! In terms of so-called "mission critical" systems, the FAA is only 72% compliant.

Nevertheless, the FAA is confident that they will be compliant by their deadline of July 1. NB: This is their own, self-selected deadline, not the government's deadline of March 31; and certainly not the GAO's deadline of October 1998!

Then there are the airports; but I don't want to be accused of being a doombrooder. <s>

Regards,
O. H.
